This example provides the space, functionality and facilities for a learning space along with a breakout room. This building is designed with early years in mind, geared towards providing an accessible, welcoming transition to school life.

Our experience in creating learning spaces for early years children has allowed us to iterate to the perfect design; layout, fittings and features have been carefully selected to maximise safety, accessibility and to optimise the learning experience.

This particular design provides a minimum requirement for a classroom like this. It would incorporate the following essential features:

  • A wide, open classroom, allowing for customisation and zone segmentation according to your pupils’ needs.
  • A breakout room, or secondary, smaller teaching space.
  • Rooms accessed from a central lobby, providing additional security.
  • A rectangular space for clear visibility at all times.
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding folding doors to “bring the outside in”; a proven technique for increasing pupil stimulation as well as providing lots of natural light.
  • Ramped decking and wide doors to facilitate wheelchair access throughout.
  • A range of options for wall and ceiling colour and textures.
  • Colourful fittings for an engaging environment.
  • Accessible toilet facilities.

We’re able to guide you through the customisation of the floor plan, styles and specifications from an array of available options. We love being able to share the expertise we’ve gained through our work with the many schools we’ve partnered with; each project is different, requiring a bespoke, tailored solution - our passion and expertise is in providing exactly that.

You might want to consider a range of additional features. Proving popular are living roofs, coloured, textured walls and sliding folding doors. An early years teaching setup should be a multi-sensory environment - we’re here to guide you and see what might work for you.

Financial considerations are also key. Luckily, the environmental sustainability of timber building projects often opens them up to grants, loans and other financial support. Visit our dedicated Funding Page for some useful links, advice and guidance.
